31st January 2010, Dubai, United Arab Emirates: Al Bastakiya Art Fair (BAF), Dubai’s only fringe art event announces dates for its fourth year. Taking place from 15-21 March 2010, BAF is an important platform that focuses international attention on Dubai’s art and cultural agenda, timed to coincide with, and complement Art Dubai. Organised by XVA Gallery, the successful event showcases the best of emerging Middle Eastern contemporary art. BAF also encourages exchange between local artistic organisations, thereby promoting unity amongst the UAE’s vibrant artistic community. BAF takes place in the historic area of Bastakiya, located by Dubai creek, giving the event a wider cultural context, and adding to its visitor appeal. BAF 2010 will make use of its unique setting, displaying work in and surrounding the charming majlis-style houses of Bastakiya. National exhibitions from the UAE, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Russia and Lebanon, will be displayed alongside artistic talent from individuals and renowned curators such as Rose Issa and Brahim Alaoui. The fair will also include exhibitions by local galleries and those located within the wider MENA region. An international edge will be lent to BAF 2010 by Saatchi Online’s participation. The exhibitions will be enhanced by a full events schedule, including a brunch lecture series, curated by Rose Isaa and featuring speakers renowned within the international art world – such as Hans Ulbrich Obrist. ‘This year BAF 2010 will continue to promote the best emerging Middle Eastern art. As in previous years, the participants are the leading local galleries, with new exhibitors added from the wider MENA region. We are especially excited to have houses curated by leading authorities on contemporary Middle Eastern art, such as Rose Issa, Ana Finel Honigman and Brahim Alaoui. Rose Issa will also be curating a series of talks, with speakers such as Anna Somers Cocks (The Art Newspaper) and Hans Ulbrich Obrist (Serpentine Gallery, London). BAF will be an unmissable event for art lovers and collectors in Dubai during March. Rosie Hayes, Co-Director and Fair Organiser, BAF 2010 www.baf.ae
